Chapter 9: The Air's Rock

Be warned: The Air's Rock is absolutely enormous, maybe even the single biggest place in the game. For all the inexperienced amongst you walking through this rock will be pure torture... But fortunately you'll have this guide with you. ;-) As you can probably see by its name this rock is all about wind, therefore you're going to need Sheba's psynergy often here. This you can already read at the sign near the entrance. So the stones here do amplify the wind? Use Sheba's Whirlwind, and indeed – a blast of air will sweep away the sand before you!

The sign says everything. Away with the sand...

You're going to need such strong winds many a time at this place. Only that way you'll be able to reach its end, at which by the way you'll learn a new power. But at first just run northwards, all other paths are only dead ends. You'll reach a giant purple rock with a chest next to it. It's a Mimic...

The local Mimic.

From the Mimic on run southeast and follow the path here. You'll come to a crossing, take the eastern path. If you're now going a little farther southeast yoou'll come towards a stone with whose power you'll be able to reveal a chest. You won't reach it until a later point, though. From here on it's only a bit to the south then. Soon you'll stumble across a few stones, simply go past them.

Further east. You'll reach it later on. Run past the stones.

Immediately you'll be at the next of the wind stones here. Sweep away the sand in the west, then run back to the many stones and worm your way through the just-revealed passage. At the end of it one of the already familiar stones will be standing here. With its help you'll be able to whirl away the sandy barriers near the entrance. Keep in mind to whirl a second time after you've used your power once! That way you'll reveal a path to another chest.

And in the southeast corner... One whirling please. Twice is better!

As you've just – like I said – sweeped away the sand blocks at the entrance you should now take the long way back to the entrance again. Run back to the crossing after the very first wind stone, then go east. You've already done a little earlier in this familiar area. In the whirled-free chest in the north there's a Cookie. Now head south and past the wind stone of earlier, then in western direction. Immediately you'll now be at the first wind stone of the area again, but this time on the eastern side! Here now whirl away the sand wall in the west.

Felix got a Cookie. Back to the first wind stone. The stone again!

Well, logically this will be the next area you'll have to go into! Head back to the entrance, from there on go west. Eventually you'll come to a wind stone, whirl the sandy area in the north away with it. This will then be the next passage. By the way, whirl once more here, but from the other side, you'll then reveal a chest in which you can find a Smoke Bomb.

The next passage's free. Felix got a Smoke Bomb.

The path to the north on the other hand will lead you towards the end of the area, right before the giant rock. Here you'll also find the next wind stone able to amplify your wind powers. Make use of it to whirl away the sand in the whole wall! You'll then be able to climb it up. Don't you agree that is was indeed about time to finally leave this area?

Darling, there's a draught!

Now the task's to scale the top of the rock! Although the area before you's huge the way itself isn't all too complicated. Left of the entrance you can find a spot where you can climb up the wall. Do so and also climb up the wall will the steps that are left of you now. Now jump down the notch at the end so that you'll be in front of one of the stone heads occasionally "breathing" gusts here. Such a gust will carry you over the pit. Jump down the notch at the end, the same once again, please. Also in the area in which you're now one of the whirling gusts will carry you further here.

Climbing the rock... O Lord, what a ride! And whirling further!

Once the other side's reach you should at first move the illar into the gap so that you can take a shortcut here later on. Now proceed further east and do likewise with another stone pillar. In the south the way leads back to the entrance, by the way, but that shouldn't be of interest now. Head eastwards until you reach the end. Descend the rock here in southern direction. If you remembered to whirl away the sand here before you should be able to get to a chest in which there is the Storm Brand, a very powerful sword.

Move again please. Felix got the Storm Brand.

Head back, but don't climb up the wall right before you now, but instead the one further west, which means backtracking. Through it you'll come to an area from where you can reach an edge in the east, where the winds of one of th stone head are blowing. Be carried by them and climb up the wall twice in the following area. You'll fall in front of a stone pillar blocking the gusts on their way. Push it over the edge, then the winds will be able to catch you and carry you towards an edge from where you can climb up to the next area.

Now climbing up here... ...and clear the blockage.

Here you'll stumble over another, quite prominent one of the Air's Rock's tests of your skills: Climb up the wall without letting the winds get a hold of you! For this all you have to do is to simply wait until the gusts have passed you. But you shouldn't havy any troubles reaching the very top! After a short walk jump down here. After an impressively easy-looking 50-metre-fall you'll immediately be next to a chest and a stone pillar. Take a Sleep Bomb out of the chest and move the pillar so that you can shortcut here as well. With the winds from the stone head you can come back to the top. Now go further east!

Be careful here! Felix got a Sleep Bomb. To the next area!

Don't panic, we're slowly approaching the top. In this are you'll of course have to try again to reach the very top, but in order to achieve that also use the gusts correctly here. First climb up the wall here until you come to a place with two stone pillars. Move one of them here to the left. Climb back until you're in the area under the one from before and jump down the slippery notch. The stone head in the east will now be able to carry you upwards.

Move the stone pillar then. Be carried upwards!

Here you'll eventually get back to the two pillars of earlier, but this time you can move the right one of them! Do so and jump down at the now free spot. The whirlwind will capure you and carry you upwards. The way continues in the west then. Head to the wall in the north and climb it up. You'll then stand in a very misty area with one very huge wind stone. You can't reach it at the moment, but on the other hand move the stone pillar here so that you'll be able to do so from another approach!

And now the other side! Climb up the wall. Making the path free.

This one's what's there to reach now. Go back to the area with the stone heads and there jump back then until you come to he wall in the west again. Just climb it up now. You'll then come to the ares of earlier, but on an alternative path. Use the Whirlwind at the giant stone. The amplifying power of the stone will create a whirl strong enough to clear out all the mist in this area. Because of this you'll now at last be able to climb further here!

Only a short way... An old acquaintance.

The next area finally consists of – thank God – the top of the Air's Rock. Climb farther and run towards the giant wind stone at the end, then use Whirlwind at it. Thunder will start rolling, and bolts of lightning will eventually strike the top. Their power will create a huge crater in the mountaintop! This will also reveal the entrance to the Air's Rock's interior section to you... Enter it, we're still miles away from being done here! By the way, if you're crazy enough to backtrack all the previous way once more you can get to a chest with the Fujin Shield now, though admittedly it's really worth the whole effort!

Danger High Voltage...! Felix got a Fujin Shield.

The inner part of the Air's Rock will be quite a step up in complicatedness compared to the exterior! But of course you'll make it through it anyway. Just run southwards here in the entry area and follow the path. If you're in need of it pick up the Psynergy Stone along the way. At the end of the way here you'll come to an area in which there are lots of stone heads and platforms, but you won't be able to do anything here for the time being. Head further and eventually go down the following stairs.

Finally inside the rock. The end of the entry area.

You're now standing in the central area, the heart of the Air's Rock. This giant chamber will lead you to all further rooms. But at first take the eastern path and enter the next area.

Up in the central area.

Follow the passage heree until the ways end in a crossing. Now take the northern path and head through it. You'll see that you'll come to an area in which you'll have to reach a wind stone to blow away some hindering sand. But in order to so you'll have to solve a puzzle beforehand, only then a path to the eastern wall will be there. Flatten the clay pillars and move the stone pillar like it's pictured on the screenshot. That way the pillars will have a stable position, but watch out to not step on the first clay pillar. Run to the wind stone at the end of the path and use Whirlwind. It'll eventually blow away the sand before you.

Head along the passage. That's how it has to look! Whirl away the sand.

Now go back and through the passage that has just become free. You'll reach another wind stone with which you can finally get rid off another sandy area in the south. Head to the area where you've just removed the sand and follow the path here. At the end you'll reach an area where you'll have to lock in a stone pillar in the ground. Afterwards return to the start of the room and head southwards. After all you'll now be able to jump over the pit due to the pillar! Follow the way and leave the room through the stairs.

And the next free path. Lock in the pillar! To the next room!

And already you're in the next of the huge areas here. Head north until you come to water shooting out of a wall. Go down the wall, follow the path and climb up again. Follow the way further, then you'll come to another spring of fizzy water. Move the one pillar before the crack so that you can proceed here. Do so and you'll then come through the northern path to a place that should have a closer inspection from you now. At first you'll have to move the stone pillar here to the right to make the right water stop flowing. Now go to the small spot between the wall and the stones, but don't be in front of the crack! Now use Move to move the stone pillar back again. Climb up and jump over the pillar onto the formerly unreachable ground.

Climb down here. That way you can proceed. The puzzle's solution!

Just head the passage before your further and ignore the stone head. You'll come to a stone pillar that you should also lock in here. Through this you'll soon get back quickly! But climb up one level again and go along the west wall here. Move the stone pillar at the end to make the water begin to flow and stop it on the other side. Then head back, jump over the pillar you've moved earlier to the place of just and exit the room through the newly enabled path.

Lock in the pillar once more! So that the water disappears.

By doing that you'll now be in the centre of the Air's Rock again! Only one floor lower, centrally so to say. Here just jump west to the next room.

Back in the central area.

Climb down here to a wind stone before you. Use it to have its strong winds turn the "stone needle" near you so that you can walk over it. On the other side now head northwards. Balance over he rope and move the stone pillar into the pit, as always for later, of course.

Rotate it correctly! This pillar must be moved.

Go back and take the western path. At its end lies a wind stone that you've surely already seen before! Use Whirlwind on it and push the stone construction back to its original state. Run back to the rope of just, now you can go further south over the needle (true lazy bones could've of course moved the stone pillar only now). Balance further south over the rope and follow the way. The room will soon follow.

The path to the wind stone. And rotate again! Many, many ropes...

At first then take the western path here. This will lead you towards a chest with an Elixir. Head back to the entrance go further north. Follow the long path and jump over the floating tiles. After some tiresome walking you should eventually come to a wind stone. Use it to adjust the stone needle to a favourable position.

Felix got an Elixir. Further over the tiles. And the needle again!

Now go northwards, over the rope and the needle. Follow the way until you come to another wind stone... What's there to do now should be clear, the stone needle will change its position once again! Go now over the very same one farther west and jump over the stone pillar towards a rope that'll lead you farther south. Follow the path before you and you'll reach the end of the room.

Fourth time. A little balancing.... End of the needle room!

And back again in the central area. Climb down the wall and go down the stairs as well. Now you've reached the lowest point of the rock! It consists of a room entirely made of psynergy stones. A huge one of them you'll find in the centre, here you can replenish your PP anytime and infinitely with it. Such a strong power it bears! Thus refresh your powers and proceed!

Further downwards. Replenish your power here!

Now you've finally come to the key event of this rock, which will be triggered by a giant stone head in the middle of the central area! Jump to the huge wind stone and do what you can surely do in your sleep by now. A bolt of lightning will strike the big head and thereby activate it! With this unleashed power the smaller stone head next to you will also be activated. Climb onto it and let its breath carry you upwards.

Awaken ancient energies!

This is, as I'm sure you've already noticed, the entry area again. Head to the next giant wind stone and use your Whirlwind. Thence you'll activate the remaining stone heads of the rock. Furthermore you can do some stuff in this room from here on. Move the stone pillar west of you and lock it in so that you can come back to the actual floor here. Let a stone head in the east here carry you towards a treasure chest in which there is a Vial. Thereafter lock in another, the second stone pillar, too. Now head to the northwestern stairs of the room that you already took in the beginning.

Activate the last stone heads... Move the pillar. Felix got a Vial.

Now's the time to find the hidden summon of the Air's Rock! Take the eastern room again, inside it go farther and enter also the next room. You should now be in the room with the water fountains again. Proceed here until the point where you come to an apparently useless stone pillar. Move it a little bit eastwards. Afterwards just head north from there on. Due to the activated stone head you can now be carried by the nearby wind stone. Use it and its winds will carry the moved pillar towards the beginning of the room. Of course you should now go back there! Move it into the pit and jump towards the secret stone tablet. Examine it and you'll be given the ability to summon Flora!

The stone pillar has to ge here. This will all do it! Felix can now summon Flora!

Now go back two rooms again, i.e. return to the uppermost part of the central area. Now take the room in the far west here. But don't let the stone head here carry you yet, instead climb down and move the stone pillar at the end. Now you can let the winds carry youz. Jump over the moved pillar and follow the path. The stone head to which you'll come can be moved. Position it close to the end of the white line and a gust from its mouth capture you. You'll come to a chest in which you can find the powerful Clarity Circlet!

You'll get further through it. Move the stone head. Felix got a Clarity Circlet.

Afterwards jump and climb back to the movable stone head. Move it now a little farther to the south so that you can reach the next path. Head along it and move the stone pillar into the pit for later. In the west the way goes further, follow this path and jump over the following small platforms. Move the pillar so that no water's blocking the stairs to your right anymore. Now run back to it and go it down.

Lock in the pillar. The water will stop flowing.

This rock just doesn't want to end... Follow the path here eastwards. You'll notice that you've already been before in this room. You couldn't reach the stairs at the end before, though.

Another stairs.

In the next room you should go farther west, you'll then come to a wind stone. Use it to get rid off the sand in the east. by the way, use the Whirlwind once more at the same wind stone to whirl the stone head to the south. But now follow the way that you've just cleared. Climb to the stone head and be whirled towards a chest in which there are 666 coins. Further south the way will bring you to a stairs leading to the next room.

The sand must go... Felix got 666 coins. The umpteenth stone pillar, yeah yeah.

Before you can proceed in this one you'll have to get a stone head out of your way beforehand. Go to the west wall and then northwards. On your way take a Vial from the chest. Move the stone head that would otherwise hinder you with its gusts. Run back thereafter and go down the now reachable stairs.

Felix got a Vial. Move the head.

Close to finishing! Run through the next room. Back in the central area climb down and let the wind of the stone head carry you eastwards. Climb up the wall north of you now and jump onto the floating tiles. These will now lead you towards a room with a golden door... the Air's Rock's elemental chamber!

Nearly done! Before the elemental chamber.

Hallelujah! This is the room you've been searching for the whole time. Jump over the tiles towards the stone tablet and read its inscription. The wielder of the wind's might shall be given a new power... that can only mean Sheba! She'll touch the stone tablet and thereby learn the gift of Reveal.

You reading the stone tablet. Sheba learned Reveal.

And now you'll right away be given an opportunity to test the new power as otherwise you won't even be able to leave the elemental chamber! Take the western path and jump over the tiles. Once you've reached the circular formation use Sheba's just-learned Reveal to make a hidden tile show up that'll enable you to walk the further way! You'll come to a chest with a Psy Crystal. Jump back to the stone tablet and take the eastern path. Use Reveal also at the circle here and soon you should be out of the chamber again!

Use 'Reveal'! Felix got a Psy Crystal. Exit the chamber.

With the gift of Reveal in your hands you've thus mastered the challenges of the Air's Rock! Just a little thing's there still left to do. Use Retreat so that you get back to the start of the rock's interior. Sprint to the big wind stone here and jump down the notch before it, you'll be at the very bottom again then. Jump over the tiles towards the southern entrance here and exit the inner rock. You're now more or less at the actual entrance of the rock that you couldn't have reached before because a stone pillar was blocking your path. But now move it and it won't be like that ever again! After that use Retreat for one more time and exit the rock for good now.

The stone pillar for shortcutting.

Hey, it wasn't thaaat difficult, was it? Yeah, I know, this place has been horrible. But I'd like to give you the all-clear now – you have the worst part of the game behind you now. And you've endured it very well! Be glad that the next stations of your journey will be a little less tough for you. Now the way leads to Garoh, to a mysterious people!
