Tips and Tricks (The Lost Age)

General Tips

Ultimate Equipment

My opinion of an ultimate equipment in Golden Sun: The Lost Age.

I guess it's not that hard to see that I slightly prefer the original group from Golden Sun... Should you not think the same way, you can naturally also interchange the equipments, say Isaac's with Felix' things, or Garet's with Piers'. There are a few shamelessly strong artefacts, such as the Riot Gloves or the Excalibur. Those should have a permanent place in your equipment in any case! The above mentioned group should be very strong and highly balanced out. Warriors have their fighting power boosted, mages on the other hand their elemental skills. In the end this should result in a group that no one can oppose!

Battle Arena

Any music wish, perhaps? Your friends are there, too! Let the battle begin!

As soon as you have created a save file and found the first djinni, you can send your characters from it to the Battle Arena in the title menu. There you can show your true strength with them! You can either fight against a friend (for this you need to have two GBAs connected via a Game Link Cable) or alone against monsters. In any case talk to the girl behind the counter and she'll grant you entrance! When playing alone you'll encounter randomly chosen enemies that you've already faced in your save file. Once a battle's won you'll get to the next one without a pause. Your rounds won are counted until the winning streaks ends you voluntarily stop fighting – hey, how far may your record go? But take care, as with each successive round your enemies will become a little stronger than before...!

In TLA there's a hidden sound test in the Battle Arena. Simply hold the R button pressed and talk to the girl in the lower left corner. And there you have it – already you can pick any piece of music heard so far in the saved game and listen to it, as often as you want!

A few general recommendations for the Battle Arena

Transfer Passwords

In "The Lost Age" you have the possibility to transfer your old group from Golden Sun into the game. For this you'll either need a Link Cable or a password. But whichever way you might choose, the Send Option's required for both (see the Tips in the GS section for this).

With the password system even players who haven't played the first game beforehand will have the opportunity to eventually have a complete game. It is recommended to them (and the others, too!) to use a password that contains all the things you cannot find in the second part. I once tried to get such a password.

Glitches

These are programming errors in the game. The majority of glitches here comes from this reference.

Debug Room

A "Debug Room" is a special place that game developers usually create to test out certain functions in the game in a quick and uncomplicated manner, as well as to validate them. Which means it only serves testing purposes. Normally such rooms get deleted after the game's completion, or access to them is removed.

No less than four of those Debug Rooms have the delepers left in "The Lost Age". They're only accessible via cheating devices like the Action Replay, Codebreaker or Gameshark. Enter one of the following codes in them (and please always only one!):

Debug Room #1 D8891F5B 276EEDC9 F9F3CCBD 767EEFC4
Debug Room #2 37EECC6D 22BA07DA F9F3CCBD 767EEFC4
Debug Room #3 E6F48D76 3D7C94FE F9F3CCBD 767EEFC4
Debug Room #4 89B301A4 6AA80BEE F9F3CCBD 767EEFC4

But enter these cheat codes only until after you've loaded your save file, otherwise you obviously won't be able to play with these data. After entering everything, just enter any new area in the game and let's start! =D

Debug Room #1

Debug Room #1, Picture 1 Debug Room #1, Picture 2 Debug Room #1, Picture 3

Name: "Icon Test". Like the debug rooms in the first Golden Sun this one's wholly covered in darkness. At first you'll stand in the room in front of two stone statues. The upper one, which carries a light, lets all different icons of the game show up. The lower one on the other hand shows the important characters along with their icons when being talked to. Although the names are completely screwed up again. South of the two statues there's a reddish statue as well as a pussy. The latter one lets your levels raise, but the statue will put every item of choice into your inventory.

Debug Room #2

Debug Room #2, Picture 1 Debug Room #2, Picture 2 Debug Room #2, Picture 3

Name: "Psynergy Test". Well, this room certainly is a little odd compared to the previous ones! There are bright tiles everywhere on the floor, the different persons stand (and lie) around here. Let's start with the top left again! Garet's standing somewhat stiff there and doesn't move at all. Ivan and Jenna look at Felix, as soon as he talks to them, but otherwise don't do anything. Mia on the other hand looks at Felix and goes into the psynergy animation for a brief time along with him. The weapon trader acts like a, well, real trader, you can properly trade with him. The young man lying on the floor looks into your direction if you talk to him, but remains lying. The priest finally acts like a normal oriest, but remains on the floor, too. Furthermore the armour trader talks some random merchant phrases. Now to the eastern side. Like many things here the Mars Djinn seems to be paralysed, but looks into your direction when being talked to. The bush shows all of the game's item icons. The ice pillar lets you change Isaac's name. Farther east lie four remarkable tiles. These cause, from north to south: HP damage and poison, all levels up + 10, 10 Lucky Medals and Game Tickets as well as all djinn. In the room's very south there's also Kraden amidst of some torches, he's completely motionless, though.

Name: "Psynergy Test 2". Much less eventful is the third of the debug rooms. You'll start in the south here. In the eastern corner there's an area with all kinds of tiles, which won't do anything, though. In the room's centre there's a pillar hammered into the ground. If you try to examin it, it'll more or less explode, but silently and without any explosion...! Furthermore there's another area of tiles in the northwest corner. Here there's nothing interesting, too, apart from a rope where you can try out your 'Lash' psynergy. There's nothing more to see here! Weird room. And why at all these ancient-looking Game Boy graphics?!

Debug Room #4

Debug Room #4, Picture 1 Debug Room #4, Picture 2 Debug Room #4, Picture 3

Name: "Shop Test". Finally another interesting room, this time even with decent graphics. As the name implies, the merchants are tested for their functionality here! You start in the midst of two rows of merchants, I'll start with the upper one, from right to left. The first two persons are Sunshine and his wife. Of course you can let him forge things for you, though the hand-shaped cursor's invisible here whilst selecting something... Mmmh. To Sunshine's left two female merchants are standing. The right on of them is one of those who sell you all different kinds of items, pretty much all-in-one, the left one (with the "emotion bubble" above the thead, which will let the standard merchant phrases appear, by the way) only sells you some simpler items. Left of the two ladies there's a weapons and armours trader as well as a priest, who all serve their special purpose here. The leftmost lady acts like the owner of an inn, you can... sleep a night here. Okay, the lower row from right to left! At first you see a sign here, which calls up the inventory of the characters. Left of it an emotion bubble's lying on the floor, as idiotic as it might sound. :-] It as well as everything else in the room won't trigger anything. Now go to the far west, there's a kind of chief here who can damage you. The djinni to the left if him will give you, well, all djinn. From the chest you'll receive items important for the game's plot, interestingly the second group, Isaac's one, will get deactivated thereby. The tourist guide can put every existing item into your inventory, similar to the one in the firt debug room. The nice fairy can raise your levels. In the northeast corner of the room there are some more things waiting to be discovered. The lower shield gives you a Muramasa as well as the Eclipse summon, the upper one lets you change the name of all eight characters. Finally the Gabomba Statue shows you all item icons of the game. Wow, what a room!
