Chapter 7: The Mercury Lighthouse

The first lighthouse on your journey! The Wise One told you in Vale that you'll have to visit them. Now there's your first opportunity to do so! You can't exactly miss the Mercury Lighthouse, it's directly north of Imil – so to say it's practically neighbouring it in the northeast.

Mercury Lighthouse on the World Map.

Now you're standing in front of the fountain at the bottom of the lighthouse, but it's dry. Go up one of the stairs beside it and continue. Right then you'll meet Mia again, who's now absolutely convinced she's not alone here...

The fountain's dry. Only Alex can enter.

Mia would like to enter the lighthouse, but she can't as out of nowhere a statue's blocking the entrance! But that's no problem at all for your group, which hopefully likes helping damsels in distress. :-) Move the statue. Mia will notice that you've used magic there, and talk to you about it.

A statue's blocking. Move it! Let's find them.

Although Mia won't get too far here – a lizard creature the size of a man wants to block her way! Help the desperate Mia and finish off the monster. After nodding to you to say thanks she goes on, and so should you. The next room's a pool of water with a big goddess statue. Don't think too much about it for now, though, and proceed through one of the doorways. In the next room both sides lead to the same passage, and obviously you should take that one now, too. Jump to to the stairs in front of you in the next area and go up. And already you've caught up with Mia again, another statue's blocking her way here. So once again demonstrate her your Move psynergy!

Mia despaired. Blocked again! Move the statue for Mia.

Now she's gotten completely curious about you and your powers. She asks you whether there's something you have to do in this lighthouse – well, actually yes! She already thought so. As she now trusts you because of all your help and she's sure she won't be able to overcome all obstacles alone she'll finally join you! From now on you can use Mia's unmatched healing abilities for your group's benefit! Along with her joining you'll also acquire a Mercury Djinni she's carrying with her.

No problem, honey. You bet! Mia joined your party.

Jump over the statue now and follow the path into the next room. This one's a kind of corridor with a few waterfalls. Still all you have to do here is simply go to the other side. The following room's a little puzzle again where you have to roll something – pipes this time! You'll have to try to manipulate the flow of the water so that it doesn't hinder your progress anymore. First of all move the pipe directly before you and go on. The ray of water will flush you away and afterwards go to the other side of the pipe through an underground stairs. Let yourself flush away again and simply follow the path. Now you're practically going round the room thereby, at the end you'll stand near the first pipe again – only from the other side. Move it and you'll be able to run to the western wall without annoying water rays. From here on just follow the way to get into the next room. But before doing so go along the path from before where you can now reach a chest containing a Psy Crystal! :-)

A pipe maze. Still the pipe maze.

Now there are two paths in front of you, the soil of the right one's quite damaged at that. But if you run along the eastern wall you can still jump over a few little pits. Now follow the way. You'll come to a switch in the ground, and as soon as you step onto it a door will be opened. Well, we're in need of a heavy something! And what we're looking is an ice statue on the other side. Move that one onto the switch and the door will open again. You can quickly get to the lower area by jumping down the notch in the soil. Run through the little tunnel, climb up the ladder and pass through the now open door. The next room only contains a single spot from where you can jump down. Do that!

Now jump over the pits... Push the statue onto the switch. Jump!

You'll now fall back into the second room you've entered in the lighthouse, but this time onto a platform in front of the goddess statue! A voice speaks to you: "He who honours the heart of the goddess shall stand at the centre of all, like the swan in the centre of a rippling pond." What does that mean? Well, jump towards the godddess and position yourself in front of it. How will your honour her? No, not by kneeling down, but with Mia's Ply psynergy! =) The goddess will brightly illuminate the rooms and as her sign of gratitude grant you the ability to jump over water here. You can do this by jumping on one of the now shining tiles. Do so straight away on the one onto which you've fallen down here! Now circles will appear over your head, and each of them will grant you a further jump. But as soon as you run out of them and fall into the water again you'll be brought right back to where you started! But they'll be sufficient to jump back to either the left or the right side of the pool. Afterwards take one of the passages to the north.

A mysterious voice... Use 'Ply' here! The goddess' might.

Time for a little treasure hunt. Jump on the right tile here so that you come to the right passage here. In the following room you'll see three waterfalls and a chest. Save your game and open the chest. Ha, it wasn't even one! Shocked? A Mimic disguised itself as one, and now it's attacking you. Let loose a storm of psynergy onto it and it's history. Once that's done proceed to the actual treasure. Try to run through the right of the three waterfalls. You'll be able to go through it, and in the next room there's the true chest! Jump to it and you'll receive the Psynergy Armour! Maybe give Isaacthis strong piece of protective gear, especially he can benefit from the additional PP. When you have it go back into the room right after the one with the goddess. Now take the northern path again.

To the Psynergy Armour. Your first mimic! Before the Psynergy Armour.

This giant room is now filled with magical tiles, and because of them you'll be able to advance here. First jump on the one before the stairs. The three times to the right and once down to land on the next tile. To the third one it's simply one jump to the right and four straight upwards. The next one's a further three jumps upwards and one to the left. Fully charged again now jump back (to the right) and afterwards up. You'll land on a tiny platform in the very corner. Jump onto the left tile and from here on to the one left of it (three times left, once down). (Optional: from here on downwards and at the end to the left to come to a chest; you'll then have to jump back to the starting place.) Held left; you'll come to a platform and are now in the northeastern corner. Go on and jump on the next magical tile. It's all the way down from here. The next room should be well-known to you, it's again the one right after the statue! This time though you can take the left path here, do so.

Isaac got a Sleep Bomb The left path

Next you're again in a room with three waterfalls. The center one here's passable! You now see an empty pool in front of you, which means you can't advance here. But if you go on you'll come to a room where the water pipes are lying. You have to arrange the pipes in a way so that the water can flow unhindered again. For that roll the uppermost pipe upwards. Afterwards the nether pipe in the same direction. Lastly roll the center pipe to the left and the pipeline is intact again! The room's filled out with water anew and the tiles get their power back. Jump over them towards the isolated stairs and go up.

The pool's empty. Now move these pipes... ...and it's filled!

There's not much to see in the following room, actually nothing to be honest! Go through it. Now there's another switch riddle ahead. The solution to it lies in the next room. Go round it along the wall once and you'll come to the eastern wall after a short underground stairs. Here move the pipe piece lying on the grid to the left. The new waterflow will move the one ice statue! Now take one of the underground ways and finally arrived on the other side roll the just rolled pipe back again. Well, well – go along the wall once more and move the pipe a second time to the left. Afterwards you'll then have to roll down the horizontally lying pipe piece! This one will now function as a blocking element. Run to the western wall and roll the first pipe to the right. Finally the statue will fall through a hole and land beside the switch from before! Go back to the previous room, encumber the switch with the statue and – hallelujah! – go through the opened door.

Another pipe maze. Through the hole. Move it onto the switch!

In the passage that you're now running along there are three statues. All three of them can be moved, but only the third one reveals a passage. Take it and you'll find a chest with a Nut. Back again simply follow the way here, along the way jump over a few pits and climb ladders up and down. Move the statue at the end and proceed. In the next room, which is the one from before with the chest again, you'l only have to move a pipe piece. The pressure of the flowing water will open a passage for you.

Isaac got a Nut. The door is revealed.

Next thing that awaits you is a long passage with no less than seven waterfalls along the way. Go through the center one, i.e. the fourth – in the little room that follows a Mercury Djinni called Sleet is waiting for you! A little has to convince him beforehand, though. When you have it go back and run to the other end of the passage. (By the way, for me this huge room is the ideal place for training!)

Through this waterfall... Before the Mercury Djinni. Sleet joined Mia.

We're nearing the end! The next two rooms can be simply run through, maybe their purpose is just to let you have a little more training. And once again such a waterfall corridor! Use the last one, namely the one far right, in order to advance. Move the statue in the following room and proceed.

And move the statue.

And once again a boring, usual passage. But the next room's looking much more interesting again! The goddess will speak to you once more: "He who honours the goddess of rainbows shall be guided to the heavens upon wings of fluid grace." By now I'm sure you already know what to do then! Save your game, stand in front of the ice statue and use Mia's Ply. In no time the waterfall will turn into a sort of elevator which will lead the surprised heroes to the Lighthouse Aerie. Yes, you've mastered the lighthouse! =)

Another voice! Pray for help again. Looks a little surprised?

Immediately you'll watch again how the Mercury Lighthouse lets its fire shine! The goddess' might has cast you on top of the lighthouse, to the Aerie. Once more heal all of your characters, pick up the Psynergy Stone and start jumping towards the beacon. Maybe have a little breather again beforehand!

The beacon shining. The Lighthouse Aerie.

As soon as you come closer to the fire Garet will reproachfully state that they weren't able to prevent the lighthouse's ignition... Mia will ask herself how that could've been accomplished without the Mercury Star, but she'll understand after you've told her about your mission. She thinks there are quite a few similarities between you and her clan! Suddenly a voice is calling – it's missing Jenna!

Too late... Jenna sees her friends.

Together with Felix, Kraden and Menardi she's standing on the lighthouse's elevator on the other side. Menardi will be surprised about your unexpected bisit, and of course only thinks of one thing: to get you out of the way quickly! But a sudden voice, the one of Saturos, prompts her to wait. Saturos now shows up from behind the beacon, he's been behind it the whole time!

Kids again?! Wait! Saturos has good ears.

So now Saturos is about to get rid of you! Menardi throws in that he really shouldn't fight alone, but Saturos replies that they can't leave the hostages completely unattended. He asks Menardi to immediately go to the next lighthouse along with the others. Jenna doesn't want at first, but when Felix begs her to comply after Menardi's threats she gives up and the group leaves the lighthouse, mourning after you.

This he wants. To the next lighthouse! Sure...

Saturos now starts to taunt you as he thinks you'll have no chance against him. But suddenly something doesn't seem to be right with Saturos... He explains that the fire of Mercury's weakening his psynergy! He has to fight a quick battle, and that one will begin exactly... now!

No problem, sir! Mercury's weakening Saturos. Uh-oh!
Saturos
Saturos Saturos appeared! HP: 1200
Saturos is a much, MUCH more difficult enemy than anyone you've encountered so far. Despite him being weakened through Mercury's fire he still possesses an enormous power, and the best thing to counter his brute strength is to face him with some good character levels (11 or above). As unfortunately there aren't many notably effective strategies you could use against him in a battle. Because of this my first tip to level up as well as possible beforehand! As a sort of battle order I'd recommend the following: Ivan casts his strongest psynergy as a Magician, Mia should always be there as a healer. Use her particularly strong water psynergy only when everybody's in good shape otherwise. Your warriors Isaac and Garet should quite simply attack Saturos with their weapons. As agility is a truly great advantage in this battle you should probably change their class to Ruffian before the battle. Give a few healing items (such as Herbs) to everyone so they can all help themselves in emergencies. That's it! No, not quite – Ivan should use Djinn Breeze at the start of the battle and summon Jupiter afterwards before the he continues to cast his spells. This will raise your elemental resistances against Saturos' devastating fire psynergy. Sadly I cannot really say anymore to this battle. Depending on your character levels the fight can range from being quite controllable to nearly impossible. For your victory you'll receive 331 experience points, 800 coins and a Psy Crystal.

Congratulations, Saturos is now lying defeated on the ground! All he's doing anymore is cursing that he couldn't use his complete psynergy. When the question come up what he meant by that Alex appears from the background to answer your query. Mia's utterly surprised about her former apprentice's presence, who had been hiding in the background the whole time.

Apparently yes... Saturos didn't have full power. Alex!

Alex explains that the might of Mercury had given Mia nearly infinite power as she's an adept of the corresponding element. Saturos on the other hand is aligned to Mars, and that opposite had weakened him. He answers a confident yes to the question whether he knew about it, but it was Saturos who wrongly judged the lighthouse's power. Still Alex also adds that you've become great warriors in a truly short time, and not to the least Saturos was also inferior to you because of that.

Limitless supply of Mercury. Saturos' psynergy was bound. Why, thanks!

But wait! Saturos stands up? But you've just defeated him! Alex explains that he was just buying time so that Saturos can regain some power. He knows that you'll have to let him go since you wouldn't stand a chance against the now as well strengthened Mercury Adept. He teleports himself along with Saturos towards the elevator. Garet tells Mia that they've already seen him do that once, in the Sol Sanctum. Surprised Mia assures the group that she doesn't know that ability, though, despite being a Mercury Adept.

Seems like he succeeded there. So here's the new Alex!

Alex is now about to say farewell, and the elevator appears again. You want to go after him because of the Elemental Stars, but Saturos will tell you Menardi's got them. The two teleport themselves onto the elevator, say goodbye and disappear before your eyes... But he's sure that he'll see you again rather sooner than later!

Aww, too bad... How nice!

Mia's angered about not having been able to protect the lighthouse. But the others comfort her and they're sure that they'll be able to prevent the remaining lighthouses from being lit. Without hesitation Mia wants to set forth again, to follow them, but your group's a little taken aback by that – after all she's needed as a healer in Imil, isn't she? She'll explain to you that with the advent of the beacon the fountain of the lighthouse will be filled again, and that its waters possess curative abilities. Which means she won't be needed anymore. The group then comes together again. Jump to the elevator and you'll be brought down by it.

That is your task. An old prophecy? Love in an elevator... *whistles*

Well, the beacon has been lit, the hostages and as their takers have escaped again! But the journey continues, it's by no means over yet. Now your task will be to use the healing waters of Mercury to save a dying tree Tret!
