Chapter 2: Vale after the Great Storm

Three years later...

Three years after the traumatic events of the prologue life in Vale has already gone back to normal. You see Jenna happily going for a walk through Vale in the morning and making a halt behind Garet's house, where he's currently practicing his psynergy abilities. Jenna still thinks about the events of three years ago... Garet doesn't really like talking about them, and eventually they both decide to pay you a visit, not least because you want to visit Professor Kraden and learn something about Alchemy!

Garet practices his psynergy. A bit of chit-chatting maybe?

Right now you're busy fixing holes in your roof, and Jenna and Garet watch your doing thereby. Both then climb up the roof and tell Dora that for today they've planned a little tour to Mt. Aleph along with Kraden! Your mother Dora now tells you a bit about Alchemy, and in her enthusiasm she'll fall down, straight to the backside of the roof! Garet jumps after her, and smashes – obviously – into the hole Isaac had just fixed. Fortunately the both of them got no injuries there, even though Garet – obviously – steps into the next hole. After this comedic scene your mother will let you go, and Garet and Jenna will then join you!

Isaac repairing the roof. An expedition to Mt. Aleph! Well...

But before you go to Kraden's house, why not a little shopping tour first, it'll be worth it! For this go to the village plaza, still know the way? Exactly, southwards! Once arrived you'll see the trading house, it's easily recognisable by the banner attached to the house. In the house there is a girl (the grocer), a man in a brown apron (the weapon trader) as well as one with a green vest (the armour trader). Feel free to buy from the latter's supply Travel Vests, Wooden Shields and Leather Caps to your heart's content, so that you're better prepared for the fights ahead of you! You'll probably also get a Game Ticket for free from him, take it, you'll find a use for it later in the game.

The trading house. Inside the trading house.

Now you can explore the village as you like, talk to every person you want to! But as you also want to go to Professor Kraden, let's waste no time there! Go back to your house and from here on westwards. Kraden's house stands exactly where you found a man scared by monsters the three years ago, remember? The southern sideway you don't want to use because a few puppies are playing there right now, thus take the northern one. But watch out, as in this moment you'll see the two mysterious warrior from that time again! You can't remember anything that happened, though, so better leave them alone and march to Kraden's house door...

The mysterious persons talking. Go...

Kraden's visibly surprised about the strange guests and what they've told him. He can't really make head or tail of what they've said! Nonetheless he's very pleased to see you visiting him. He tells you that the strangers told him things about the Sol Sanctum that even scholars like him don't know. The aforementioned Sanctum stands on Mt. Aleph and is protected by the village of Vale. Garet's conclusion is theft, but Kraden calms him down. They can together make inquiries – in other words, you'll personally enter the Sanctum! You're quite shocked in awe, but Kraden opines that it's all okay. He goes back and gets some Mythril Bags for the expedition, and already you're ready to start – on to the Sol Sanctum!

There's only one way! Kraden gets his Mythril Bags. Let's go!

To get to the Sanctum you have to go back into the direction of Garet's house, to the east. The Sanctum's located directly north of it. Go past the temple and – a priest will warn you against going any further! He then keeps guard and patrols around the temple. You can avoid his view as soon as he walks into the building's shadow, so use this opportunity and run north! In front of you there's now the entrance of the Sol Sanctum. Enter it!

Uh-oh! Sneak past the priest. The Sol Entrance.

Kraden now explains the importance of this sanctum to you. Let's go exploring! Head for the next room.

What a moment!

Your group now stands in front of a big water pool, tiles stick out of the surface. Now you have to hop from tile to tile! You automatically do that by standing close to a pool border and move to the wished direction. That way you should get to the other side via the shown path. The next room!

Big pool there.

You've just reached a long corridor with a blue floor! A beautiful sight, I think. Beginning with this room the Sanctum's many monster will now start attacking you! But you should be well-prepared for that by now. Jenna can simply burn the monsters to crispos with her Flare psynergy. Apart from that there's nothing special in this corridor, run forth and to the next area.

Really gorgrous!

Again you'll be standing in front of an enormous water pool. But in the meantime you should've gotten the knack in this! Jump onto the pair of tiles directly before you first, then one to the right and all the way up until you've reached the other side in the center path. Proceed and you'll find a chest. Take its content – a Small Jewel! With this in your hands go back and jump to the other, right waterside. At the end of this corridor you'll see a sort of minotaur head made of stone. Stand in front of it and press "A". You'll be told that there's a hole in its left eye, then your menu will open. Go to your inventory, pick the jewel you've just gotten and then choose option "Use"! You've just inserted the jewel, a passage will open thereafter! This one you can now finally find on the left waterside of the room. Thus jump back and leave the area through the new entrance.

Another pool. Isaac got a Small Jewel. A minotaur head??

You're now in the heart of the Sanctum. Or aren't you? Kraden now supposes that there's a hidden entrance somewhere. And exactly this you'll find after moving a statue in the northeast of the room to the left or right! Just stand beside it and push it into the direction you want to move it. Pass through the now revealed gateway. (In the northwest of the room there's also a statue you can move, but this gateway will only lead you to a dead and. By the way, you'll always be able to recognise movable objects by dotted lines on the ground. Remember it well!)

There must be a hidden path. And here it is!

Which way you go in the next room doesn't matter, as both lead you northwards towards a crossways. Take the left path first, then you'll soon come to a chest that contains the next Small Jewel. Go back and take the path to the north. After a little turn to the left you'll come to the next room. Here Kraden reminds you that you can use your psynergy to move the statues before you. So let's do this! Go left and look at the statue furthest away. Go into the psynergy menu and choose Move! With this one you can now magically get a hold of the statue and move it. Do this in any direction – another minotaur head appears! Jump to it, then place the jewel from you inventory into it and hear a new passage open! Now run towards the furthest statue in the east and move it also. You'll now see a passage that'll lead you deeper into the Sanctum.

The next Small Jewel. Use the Force! To move the statues.

In the next room there is a chest containing an Herb in the northwest, but that's not too important right now. Much more interesting are the rooms waiting for you in the northeast! At first you'll notice the room of Sol, and Kraden will tell you in quite a euporia that you must now have reached the heart of the Sanctum. He asks you to go a little farther. And immediately you'll come to the room of Luna! Kraden speculates there must be a secret, and of course you're the ones to solve it whilst he's busy with his researches! South of the Luna room a stair will take you further.

The Sol room. The Luna room.

Further to the north of the room you can see four angel statues around a symbol of Luna. But if you move one of them you'll activate a trap mechanism... A startled Kraden will come to you and points out to you that there must be something important hidden here! You just have to disarm the trap beforehand.

Big mistake! That's quite likely...

To disarm this mechanism proceed to the western part of the room. You'll then see two movable angel statues plus a bitter one in the midst of them, which carries a stone plate. Move the two smaller statues onto the sockets and their combined light will burn a hole into the ground. Now you can use your Move psynergy to push the bigger statue into that very hole! As a result you'll hear something click – the trap's out of the way! Now you can move the four angel statues from before onto the sockets without any dangers. Their light permanently substitutes the Luna symbol with the Sol one and vice-versa, and Kraden will ask you to continue like this! Now move the remaining three statues and go back downstairs into the room of Luna.

Disarm trap, step 1. Disarm trap, step 2. The moved statues

There Kraden will find out that the symbols of the gods in the room of Luna have changed! This room now shows Sol. Thereupon go into the neighbouring room with Kraden which now has the symbol of Luna. A ray comes out of the moon, it's pointing towards a wall. Examine it by standing in front of it and pressing "A"! The ray will now vanish and leave a magical portal behind. Through it you and Kraden will now be carried to the room with the Elemental Stars!

They've changed indeed. You bet!

So this is the Sanctum's secret! Kraden once again summarises the essence of Alchemy as well as the research of it for you and will try to collect the Elemental Stars thereafter. Unluckily the ground is far too slippery for him, so he asks you to get the Stars for him! He then gives you four Mythril Bags into which you can stow the Stars. That means: Get to work! You'll now have jump over the rocks to the star-holding statues. The way to them may be confusing, but it's stilll pretty straightforward, there's always only one possible path. The first star's the one of Venus. Jump over the rock northeast of the platform, then further southeast and follow the stony path. At the end you'll see the statue of Venus! Examine it (her?) and you'll find the Venus Star, furthermore a few additional rocks will shoot up. Kraden's satisfied with your work and encourages you to get the remaining stars. The next one, the star of Mercury, can be found in the statue directly northeast. Collect its star, too. The Jupiter Star's next, it's in the southwest. But as soon as you've picked it up you'll wonder why Kraden's euphoria's missing...

Of course, the boys... You found the Venus Star.

Saturos and Menardi have followed you and taken control of Jenna and Kraden! They demand from you to hand over the Elemental Stars to them. A masked person appears thereupon, and the two assure you that nothing's going to happen to your friends, as the masked person now turns out to be... Felix! The boy who got lost three years ago and now tells you what has happened in the meantime! As Jenna's brother he's supposed to convince you to obey the will of the two warriors. There won't be another choice for you than to hand over the stars! Garet decides to do this, but suddenly a blue-haired person called Alex appears in front of him. He's a companion of the enemy group and takes the stars from you, additionally he tells you that you'll also have to get them the last one of the four!

They've been spotted. Apparently it is. Alex is their companion.

So, more or less forced now get the hostage-takers the last one, the Mars Star. It's located in the northwest. But after you've taken it the cave will start quaking and the mountain be about to erupt again! Thereupon the god of Alchemy, the Wise One, appears. A panicked Saturos then tells his group that they'd stand no chance against the guardian and have to flee without the Mars Star, together with Kraden and Jenna as hostages. The focus then goes back to Isaac and Garet again, who're now standing there, forsaken. The Wise One now appears and asks you to flee out of the volcano, as it's going to erupt soon. You'll then see how the Elemental djinn are unleashed upon the world! The Wise once continues to steady the fires, but without success! The volcano starts to erupt, but the god is able to summon you out of the chamber...

It's the Wise One! How sad... Flee or die!

Back in the sanctum you should flee as fast as possible! The best way to do this is to use Isaac's Retreat psynergy! Now at the Sanctum's entranceyou should flee southwards back to the village of Vale. The villagers have already gathered in front of the sanctum and are relieved to see you alive. But they have to admit that there's too much going on outside. They ask you to come into the village's sanctum and explain everything there.

Come into the sanctum.

You and Garet now report them the incidents in the sanctum... The high priest will confirm you that the floating rock was indeed the Wise One, and that it appeared before his mental eye. It announced to him that the destiny of the world – naturally lies in the hands of the both of you now! The Wise One appears in the Sanctum thereafter and assures you that it'll watch you with your task... The high priest now explains to you what to do... you should find the lighthouses as well as acquire the Elementals, the djinn! The conference is over after that. It's decided that you'll leave Vale by tomorrow... The mayor, Garet's grandfather, isn't all too excited about it, but still it's been voted like that..!

Isaac and Garet reporting. We're brave enough!

The next morning you find yourself standing in front of the village square, together with the villagers who want to wish you good luck and bid their farewell. But before that Garet's sister gives you an Herb, his little brother the Catch Beads afterwards instead of your mourning mother... But now we get to the big farewell!

Farewell!

You leave the village and find yourself standing outside the village on the World Map now. Your journey has begun, what may be next? :-)
