Attacking turns:1
Exp. after victory:
Items after victory:
Abilities:
Attack, Fireball, Eruption, Heat Flash (Myst. Man)
Attack, Flare Wall, Blast, Nova, Death Size (Myst. Woman)
Commentary/Strategy:
These two mysterious persons are going to be your arch-enemies in the plot of Golden Sun. At the time when the Great Storm takes place you'll be far too weak to stand a chance against the two warriors, though! It's predetermined that you'll lose here, the fight cannot be won, yet...
Bandit and Thieves
Thief Bandit Thief Location:Vault
Rec. Level:4
Health Points:244 (Bandit) 110 (thieves)
Strength:
Weakness:
Attacking turns:1
Exp. after victory:66
Items after victory:110 Coins + Bandit's Sword
Abilities:
Attack, Trembles, Glowers ferociously, Slice, Smoke Bomb, Herb (Bandit)
Attack, Trembles, Glowers ferociously, Herb (Thieves)
Commentary/Strategy:
It's not the easiest thing to deal with these three baddies, but thankfully they don't really have anything troublesome to set against you. The easiest method to defeat them is psynergy. Ivan can simply cast 'Ray' on every turn, whereas Isaac helps out with 'Earthquake' and Garet with 'Fire', should they have already reached level 4, that is! This is both the easiest and more or less most successful variant you can choose with your vital characters. If your warriors don't already have these psynergies in their possession they can simply resort to the weaker psynergies. The main point is simply that you're hitting all three of them at a stroke, so always target the bandit. An alternative strategy would be to use the Djinn Flint on one of the thieves and summon Venus on everyone after that. Or to use attacking items, for example some obtained Oil Drops. In any case, the mischievous gang should fall quickly, and the victory is yours! In cases of emergency Ivan can simply heal your Health Points with an Herb, as he's the quickest person of the group and therefore strikes first.
Tret
Tret Location:Tret Tree
Rec. Level:8
Health Points:710
Strength:Icon Water
Weakness:Icon Fire
Attacking turns:1
Exp. after victory:226
Items after victory:700 Coins + Potion
Abilities:
Attack, Quake, Growth, Thorn, Sleep Star
Commentary/Strategy:
Now Tret's already a little harder to defeat than the bandits! He's not going to attack you with rather strong psynergy too seldomly, which is why I recommend to have all djinn as set! Let Isaac attack, but Garet and Ivan use their strongest psynergy (such as 'Spire', 'Plasma' or 'Volcano). This should really make things warm for him! Especially keep an eye on Ivan's HP and try to not let him get defeated – above all he's both a strong magician and a quick healer! If one your characters should fall asleep due to Tret's 'Sleep Star', just keep cool. Continue to attack and only heal when necessary.
Saturos
Saturos Location:Mercury Lighthouse
Rec. Level:12
Health Points:1200
Strength:Icon Fire
Weakness:Icon Water
Attacking turns:1
Exp. after victory:331
Items after victory:800 Coins + Psy Crystal
Abilities:
Attack, Fireball, Eruption, Heat Flash
Commentary/Strategy:
Saturos is a much, MUCH more difficult enemy than anyone you've encountered so far. Despite him being weakened through Mercury's fire he still possesses an enormous power, and the best thing to counter his brute strength is to face him with some good character levels (11 or above). As unfortunately there aren't many notably effective strategies you could use against him in a battle. Because of this my first tip to level up as well as possible beforehand! As a sort of battle order I'd recommend the following: Ivan casts his strongest psynergy as a Magician, Mia should always be there as a healer. Use her particularly strong water psynergy only when everybody's in good shape otherwise. Your warriors Isaac and Garet should quite simply attack Saturos with their weapons. As agility is a truly great advantage in this battle you should probably change their class to Ruffian before the battle. Give a few healing items (such as Herbs) to everyone so they can all help themselves in emergencies. That's it! No, not quite – Ivan should use Djinn Breeze at the start of the battle and summon Jupiter afterwards before the he continues to cast his spells. This will raise your elemental resistances against Saturos' devastating fire psynergy. Sadly I cannot really say anymore to this battle. Depending on your character levels the fight can range from being quite controllable to nearly impossible.
Killer Ape
Killer Ape Location:Mogall Forest
Rec. Level:13
Health Points:1000
Strength:Icon Wind
Weakness:Icon Fire
Attacking turns:1
Exp. after victory:460
Items after victory:1500 Coins + Douse Drop
Abilities:
Attack, Douse, Delude, Bind, Warcry, Ransack
Commentary/Strategy:
The 'Big Mama' of all monkeys in the Mogall Forest, so to say, who really wants to give you a good beating for having plagues their kids. But fortunately this wannable King Kong's not too hard at all. In contrast to Saturos the Killer Ape doesn't have any strong range attacks, the only really strong actions do always target a single characters only. This should give you enough time to heal when required. The true strength of this ape apparently lies in its immense quickness, though this won't be of much use for it of you use your strongest psynergy against it. Choose ones of the like of 'Ragnarok', 'Heat Wave' or 'Planet Diver'. (Should one of your characters wield the Artic Blade you may want to let him attack, as the unleash's possible strength reduction comes in handy here). The battle can even become a true snorefest with the 'Sleep' psynergy (e.g. Ivan's). But in any case, I'm always of the opinion that whoever's able to defeat Saturos will hardly ever find a moment of desperation when it's against the Killer Ape. It's simply weaker.
Hydros Statue
Hydros Statue Location:Altin Peak
Rec. Level:16
Health Points:1300
Strength:Icon Water
Weakness:Icon Fire
Attacking turns:1
Exp. after victory:496
Items after victory:2400 Coins + Lucky Medal
Abilities:
Attack, Tundra, Ice Horn, Drench, Froth Sphere, Ply, Water Blessing
Commentary/Strategy:
The Hydros Statue's basically a much tougher version of its smaller counterparts, the Living Statues! It'll predominantly attack you with its water psynergy, which can really hurt indeed! Although it doesn't have any attack that can alter your status. The battle will most likely proceed like the one against the Killer Ape – use your strongest psynergy, which by this point should already hurt qzite a lot, such as 'Ragnarok', 'Heat Wave' or 'Storm Ray'. As the statues weak against fire the Ruffian class may be ideal for Isaac and Garet, as it contains the 'Planet Diver' psynergy. In addition to this, Ivan can use his 'Sleep' psynergy to make this beast completely harmless! :-) Mia's water psynergy as a means of attacking has no place in this battle, she's just going to serve as the healer again. If you've found all four Mercury djinn up to this point already, there actually won't be anything to worry about – her 'Wish' psynergy heals faster than the monster's able to damage in any case! Whatever, the fight shouldn't last too long...
Manticore
Manticore Location:Lamakan Desert
Rec. Level:17
Health Points:1700
Strength:Icon Fire
Weakness:Icon Water
Attacking turns:2
Exp. after victory:590
Items after victory:3400 Coins + Psy Crystal
Abilities:
Attack, Blast, Nova, Impair, Delude, Curse, Poison Tail
Commentary/Strategy:
The Manticore's going to be your toughest enemy so far. Besides a few strong attacks this monster can eveb attack twice per turn! It'll attack you with its strong fire attacks or its tail, which is able to fatally poison you. Whatever may happen, always have your djinn set, as you're going to need the higher stats! Also the fight will be a lot easier if at least one characters has learned the 'Wish' psynergy. With it you'll be able to heal all group members at once. If you're in possession of four Mercury djinn, give them to Mia. But should you have four Jupiter djinn as well, give those to Mia instead and the Mercury djinn to Ivan! This way both are able to learn Wish. Then make you that at least two members of your group are able to heal poison! Otherwise it could really carry you off. Isaac and Garet can stay in their standard classes, Isaac then uses 'Ragnarok' whilst Garet attacks normally – his fire psynergy isn't very effective here. Let Ivan and Mia only attack when everybody's at perfect health!
Kraken
Kraken Location:Schip
Rec. Level:19
Health Points:2400
Strength:Icon Water
Weakness:Icon Fire
Attacking turns:2
Exp. after victory:711
Items after victory:5200 Coins + Water of Life
Abilities:
Attack, Drench, Frost, Ply, Water Blessing, Dark Blessing, Poison Beat, Spinning Beat
Commentary/Strategy:
The Kraken's able to attack twice and furthermore some strong attacks at hand. Therefore better be careful! But there really is a dead easy method of mastering this monster. This easy, but in case most effective is to let Ivan cast 'Sleep' in virtually every turn. As the Kraken's utterly vulnerable against this particular spell! It'll leave it completely harmless, whilst you'll be able to damage it with your strongest attacks. The 'Planet Diver' psynergy, which Isaac and Garet learn as Brutes, is very effective as well. With this the battle's rather easy to pass – and should Mia even know 'Wish', then there's nothing to be feared at all...
Toadonpa
Toadonpa Location:Lunpa Fortress
Rec. Level:20
Health Points:2800 (80 REG)
Strength:Icon Water
Weakness:Icon Fire
Attacking turns:1
Exp. after victory:999
Items after victory:3200 Coins + Psy Crystal
Abilities:
Attack, Dark Blessing, Sticky Poison, Foul Blood, Thrash
Commentary/Strategy:
Toadonpa has got several characteristics that make it especially dangerous in battle. Those aren't only its strong attack, but its high HP (and regeneration of 80 per round respectively) as well. But luckily there are also some more pleasant news, too: He'll only attack once a turn and is, like most animals, vulnerable to sleep. This should already compose your strategy: Use Ivan's 'Sleep' to simply bring this whopper down! Instantly attack with your weapons. By the way, the Assassin Blade is particularly recommended here, as it is able to slay this beast in a single artful stroke. The toad's single worst attack is its Sticky Poison, so better have a few antidotes or Mia at hand when they're needed. Whatever, this easy method is a relatively safe one and should lead you to victory quite soon.
Storm Lizard
Storm Lizard Location:Suhalla Desert
Rec. Level:23
Health Points:2900
Strength:Icon Wind
Weakness:Icon Earth
Attacking turns:2
Exp. after victory:1300
Items after victory:6100 Coins + Psy Crystal
Abilities:
Attack, Storm Ray, Sonic Slash, Tempest, Impact, Guard, Wing Stroke
Commentary/Strategy:
You're truly going to need all of your power in the battle against the Storm Lizard! It can attack twice per turn and moreover some darn strong psynergy, which it's not going to use sparsely! But better forget it to seal that psynergy or to even attempt to let her fall asleep – no guaranteed success at all. Instead of this you should simply concontrate on not letting the lizard give you too much trouble with your health! Use the Djinn 'Breeze' or Ivan's 'Resist' to weaken the strong attacks unleashed upon you. Isaac and Garet themselves should attack, Mia will likely be needed for healing. It's very helpful to have an Assassin Blade equipped to Isaac or Garet, with it (and much luck) you'll see the lizard on the other side of the river rather sooner than later.
Tempest Lizard
Tempest Lizard Location:Suhalla Desert + Crossbone Isle
Rec. Level:23
Health Points:3000
Strength:Icon Wind
Weakness:Icon Earth
Attacking turns:2
Exp. after victory:1360
Items after victory:6400 Coins + Potion
Abilities:
Attack, Storm Ray, Sonic Slash, Tempest, Impact, Guard, Wing Stroke
Commentary/Strategy:
See Storm Lizard.
Saturos and Menardi
Saturos Menardi Location:Venus Lighthouse
Rec. Level:25
Health Points:3000 (Saturos) 2600 (Menardi)
Strength:Icon Fire
Weakness:Icon Water
Attacking turns:1
Exp. after victory:6000
Items after victory:7800 Coins + Psy Crystal
Abilities:
Attack, Inferno, Pyroclasm, Potent Cure, Guard, Haunt, Break, Heat Flash (Saturos)
Attack, Flare Storm, Fiery Blast, Supernova, Wish, Impact, Protect, Death Size (Menardi)
Commentary/Strategy:
Your two tormentors of once haven't lessened at all in their powers! They both are masters of the fire psynergy and are going to make your life a living hell with their strong spells. Concentrate on Menardi first. She's the quicker of the two and knows a deadly attack, but she's the physically weaker person, too. Simple attacks will be enough for this battle, as your weapons have guaranteedly become stronger than your psynergy in the meantime, with the possible exception of Ivan. Once Menardi has fallen the battle against the remaining Saturos shouldn't be too hard anymore. I don't recommend stat boots and such too much here. You should definetely have at least character levels of around 25 for this fight along with some strong equipment, otherwise you may still be too weak. But with these things and a good healer like Mia to it the battle should soon be decided in your favour.
Fusion Dragon
Fusion Dragon Location:Venus Lighthouse
Rec. Level:25
Health Points:5000
Strength:Icon Fire
Weakness:Icon Water
Attacking turns:2
Exp. after victory:
Items after victory:
Abilities:
Attack, Break, Outer Space, Drain Fang, Deadly Gas, Dragon Driver, Evil Blessing, Severe Blow
Commentary/Strategy:
This giant monstrosity, the fusioned power of Saturos and Menardi, certainly is the strongest enemy in the game, rightfully so! It's able to do just about anything, poison you, haunt you, weaken you, simply hurting a lot... And all of this twice a turn. Strong characters are much of an advantage here, but if you've managed to defeat the warriors before it should be enough for the Fusion Dragon as well. Because of the monster's strong attacks it'd be wise to let it attack as few as possible. That's why I recommend to use Ivan's 'Impact' as much as possible to strengthen Isaac's and Garet's attacks. This won't only power up your warriors, who will actually only simply attack, it will also lure the monster into using 'Break', which means it won't attack you. Mia should always be ready at your side, for both healing in general and poison in particular. She should only attack when everyone's at perfect health. After one hell of a battle even the Fusion Dragon should eventually go down...
Deadbeard
Deadbeard Location:Pirate Ship
Rec. Level:25
Health Points:6000
Strength:Icon Water
Weakness:Icon Earth
Attacking turns:2
Exp. after victory:8000
Items after victory:9000 Coins + Water of Life
Abilities:
Attack, Freeze Prism, Inferno, Spark Plasma, Impact, Guard, Ward, Break
Commentary/Strategy:
Deadbeard, the old pirate captain, sadly doesn't welcome you too warmly on his merry little ship. Now he wants to throw you out with a plentyfold of strong attacks – Spark Plasma, Inferno, Freeze Prism... Only a thick skin and strong healing psynergy will help you here! Or not, as even weak characters are able to defeat him without much effort. As all of Deadbeard's attacks are psynergies, seal those with the Djinn "Luff". Then his psynergy will be away for four turns – enough time to set the djinn again! After this just do this over and over. This way admittedly only three attackers are left, but then again Deadbeard's virtually completely harmless. With this dead certain method only heal yourself a few times, then your warriors should've already finished him in no time. And should you already have very strong characters you can obviously also use the quick method and attack Deadbeard with brute force only...!
